This Innovation Grid will facilitate seamless, automated and ubiquitous flow of IP creation and commercialization from ideation to filing patents and market place for discovery to revenue.

Mission

JS Innovation Labs™, an initiative of 63 moons, is an accelerator and an innovation hub for IP creation, set-up along the lines of Google Labs and Apple Labs to bring curated IP (Intellectual Property) based innovations faster to market by helping streamline, organize and automate the process of filing, obtaining and commercializing Patents and Research Papers in 12 targeted industry verticals.

Offerings

JS Innovation Labs™ offers two flagship programs to give India’s brightest young minds a chance to implement their innovative ideas:

Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR)

India’s first and most ambitious program for entrepreneurs

The EIR program helps innovators, entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs from across the globe start IP-centric, technology-driven, sustainable ventures across 12 targeted industry sectors.

EIR’s endeavor is to democratize entrepreneurship by creating an ‘inclusive entrepreneurship’ program that will target all demographics:

  • Global Entrepreneurs from areas like Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe among others, looking to target the market with the third-largest internet/mobile penetration: India

  • Underprivileged entrepreneurs: from disadvantaged economic backgrounds and areas like Dharavi in Mumbai, to provide access to equal opportunities

  • Mainstream entrepreneurs: are the talent from the IITs, IIMs, NITs and similar leading educational institutions and innovation centers

Duration: EIR program is envisaged for 6 month for 10 startups (upto 20 EIRs)

India Innovation Grid (IIG)

The IIG aims at creating a global market place for ideas and innovation for young entrepreneurs emerging from India

India innovation Grid is a PAN-India IP network setup of JS Innovation Lab™, in partnership with leading educational institutes/universities across India and other global innovation hubs.

IIG will streamline, organize and automate the IP Process and filing of Research Papers as well as applying for Provisional Patents which will eventually help in monetizing the same through an open marketplace forefront based on revenue sharing model.

Offerings: The basic thought premise about India Innovation Grid (IIG) is built upon an entire process of acquiring a patent right from:

  • Provisional Filing
  • Complete Specification Filing
  • Publishing documents (research papers, white papers, case studies, IPRs, etc.)
  • Request for approval (along with amendments, if any)
  • Paying annual maintenance post grant of patent

IIG also promises to provide an open, acceptable marketplace for commercialization of IPs and patents through technology transfer route and / or investment in IPs or patent to build a sustainable start-up around the same.

Partner Institutes: Some key institutes have been identified (to be approached for IIG program) for potential partnership. All names mentioned are for reference purpose.

  • Management and Engineering: IIMs, TERI University, FMS, NMIMS, IMT, BIT, IITs, Symbiosis, GIM – Goa, IPE – Hyderabad, ISB
  • Law Colleges: National Law School of India University (NLSIU), National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University (NALSAR), National Law University, West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Faculty of Law – Delhi University

  • International Linkage: MIT Lab, Stanford Lab, NASA, Hopkins school, CSI – Boston college, Y Combinator, VentureLab, Singularity University, London Business School, UKSPA - Imperial College Incubator

The case for IIG:

  • India files close to 43,000 patents every year, way behind China with 6.8 lakh patents per year and USA with almost 5 lakh patents.
  • India ranks 81st on the Global Innovation Index according to GII (Global Innovation Index), INSEAD and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO, an agency of the UN).
  • As on 30th November 2015, the Indian Government has 2,46,495 applications pending for patents as a result of insufficient resources.
  • India is the largest hub for Scientists, Doctors, Engineers, and Scholars (in almost every field). Despite the brains and talents with us, there has not been a substantial increase in the investment of Government in R&D and it continues to remain a mere 0.9% of national GDP as compared to 1.98% of China and 2.8% of USA. This coupled with a slow patenting process has drastically reduced inventiveness of the country.#

India has been a victim of bio-piracy for over two decades, where MNCs are profiting from the intellectual wealth of the country. Notwithstanding, bio-piracy has hampered the efforts of farmers and scientists who are key to India’s development.
